by | Dec 29, 2020 | News, Good plans, Do It Yourself, Special Edition, Kids

The Epiphany is already coming! Whether it is celebrated on Sunday January 3rd or Wednesday January 6th, this occasion is very much awaited by the children because our little wolves all aspire to be king or queen after having fallen on the famous bean. And like every year, we can't wait to know who will be the lucky one of the day. But before that, we roll up our sleeves and make our homemade galette des rois for more family fun! To do so, Kidlee shares with you 3 great recipes for children's galette des rois.

For the steps of realization that will be the same for the 3 recipes, the difference lies essentially in the preparation of the cream. In order to realize these recipes, you just have to follow the steps explained below.

Frangipane cake signed Mômes :

We found this most appetizing recipe on the momes.net website. It is both simple and ultra easy to make.

To make this frangipane galette des rois, you will need :

  • 2 ready-made puff pastries
  • 150 g almond powder
  • 125 g of sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 60 g soft butter
  • 1 egg yolk to brown the dough
  • and the famous bean!

Step 1 : the frangipane

In a bowl, simply whisk the sugar and very soft butter together until creamy. Ask your little ones to help you by adding the sugar and almond powder, then mix again and you're done!

Step 2 : the assembly

Unroll a first dough on a baking sheet. Let your children spread the frangipane in the center of the dough. Spread the dough, leaving about 2 cm of space around the edge.

It's time to place the bean. At this point, the children will either have to close their eyes or leave the kitchen for a little while.

Is your cake out of sight of the children? Then it's time to place the bean of your choice on it.

However, Momes warns us about the location of the bean. You mustn't put it anywhere. If you put it in the center, at the first stroke of the knife you will fall on it. Then for more suspense, prefer to place it on the side.

Once the bean is placed, cover it with the second dough. Insist on the edge to weld the two doughs together.

Step 3: Decorating and baking

To decorate your galette des rois, start by whipping the egg yolk with 1 tablespoon of water to obtain a golden color. Then let your little wolves brush the cake with a kitchen brush and place it in the fridge for 10 minutes.

After this break, take your galette des rois back and redo a second gilding.

In the center, make a small hole with the tip of a knife, which will allow the steam to escape and your cake not to swell too much.

All you have to do is decorate the cake as you wish! Then put it in the oven for 30 minutes at 180°C

Find the recipe in pictures on the website of Kids with as a bonus a crown to print to crown the king or queen!

Why not opt for originality this year by making a galette des rois with the good taste of Speculoos?

It is at the Women's Journal that we have taken this great recipe. To make it you will need :

  • 2 puff pastries
  • 30 g white almond powder
  • 30 g of butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 30 g of sugar
  • 30 ml vanilla custard
  • 65 g speculoos dough
  • Topping on the frangipane :
  • 30 g speculoos cookies (for coarse crumbling)
  • 1 egg for the gilding

Preparation of the speculoos frangipane :

In a salad bowl, with the help of your little ones, start by putting the butter (soft butter, not melted) and the sugar, then mix until the filling is whitened. Then add the almond powder, eggs (whole) and mix. Add the cold pastry cream and the speculoos paste and mix.

To make your own children's galette des rois, just follow the same steps as the first recipe. The only difference is the speculoos cookies. Once you have spread your frangipane mixture and put the bean on top, add the speculoos cookie by sprinkling it on your cream.

Then you will just have to cover all this with the second part of your puff pastry, decorate and then bake at 175° for 40/45 min (preheated oven).
