Increasingly widespread in France, the status of micro-entrepreneur is attracting many young people wishing to work independently. What is micro-entrepreneur status?

The micro-entrepreneur status (formerly known as auto-entrepreneur) is a simplified system that makes it easy to set up a self-employed business. It is aimed at anyone wishing to bill for services or sell goods, while benefiting from a simplified administrative, social and tax framework.

It's a particularly good choice for students or young professionals, as it allows you to work alongside your studies or a salaried job. As a micro-entrepreneur baby-sitter, you become a service provider: parents are no longer your employers, but your customers.

The main advantages of this status :

  • Easy to create and manage A simple online declaration is all that's needed to get started, and no accounting expertise is required to manage the business.
  • Freedom You choose your own working hours and the families you work with.
  • Flexibility This status can be combined with that of student, employee or job seeker.
  • Social protection You benefit from health coverage, pension rights and maternity/paternity benefits (proportional to your contributions).

Social security contributions: how does it work?

Micro-entrepreneurs declare their sales on a monthly or quarterly basis, and pay contributions based on the income they receive.

  • For service such as babysitting, the standard contribution rate is 24,6 % of sales.
  • New micro-entrepreneurs can benefit from theACRE (aid for business start-ups or takeovers), which reduces the rate to 12,3 % in the first year.

👉 Please note: these rates are set by decree and may change from year to year. They are therefore likely to increase or decrease depending on government decisions.

In concrete terms, if you don't no salesyou don't nothing to pay. And as soon as you start invoicing, your contributions are proportional to your income: it's impossible to end up with heavy fixed costs.

A concrete example of a contribution :

Let's take a simple example: if a micro-entrepreneur babysitter earns €400 gross over a month, and is eligible for ACRE, he or she will pay 12.3 % contributionsor 49,2 €. His net income will therefore be 350,8 €.

Without ACRE (from the second year), the rate is 24,6 %or 98,4 € contributions for the same sales, with a net income of 301,6 €.

👉 If no sales are made, the micro-entrepreneur simply declares "0 €" for the chosen period (month or quarter), and no contributions are due.

How to create your micro-entrepreneur status?

The creation of the status simple, fast and free. Everything can be done online, in about 15 minutes, on the official Auto-Entrepreneur portal (URSSAF).

Simply :

  1. Please bring your identity card (CNI, passport, residence permit).
  2. Enter your Social Security number.
  3. Fill in an online form with your personal information and your activity.

A few days later, URSSAF issued a SIRETwhich formalizes the micro-business. Upon receipt, the baby-sitter can invoice and operate legally.

👉 Good news: if you use Kidlee, you don't even have to worry about that! You'll receive step-by-step support, so you can start your assignments with complete peace of mind, without having to worry about the administrative side of things.

Why choose micro-entrepreneur status for childcare?

In France, a large proportion of babysitting is still done under the table, paid in cash, with no social protection or benefits for the family. Yet this practice is illegal and risky:

  • The babysitter is not covered in the event of an accident.
  • The family has no insurance.
  • Neither takes advantage of the tax or social benefits associated with childcare.

Micro-entrepreneur status solves all these problems: it allows you to work within a legal, secure and professional framework, while at the same time offering a better image with parents.

Childcare for children over 3: NOVA declaration

To look after children over the age of 3 as a micro-entrepreneur, you need to obtain a certificate. personal services" approval.
This approach, called NOVA declarationRegistration is free of charge, and can be done online using your SIRET number.

This approval has two major advantages:

  • It certifies that the babysitter is registered and recognized for childcare.
  • It allows families to benefit from CAF CMG (Complément de libre choix du mode de garde - Childcare supplement) and 50 % tax credit on amounts paid.

👉 Chez KidleeWe support our babysitters in obtaining this approval, simplifying the process and guaranteeing families a perfectly supervised and declared childcare service.
