How can you simplify your child's return to kindergarten?

par | Aug 16, 2021 | Parents, Pedagogy Parents

Back-to-school season is starting to take shape. And if your little one is going back to kindergarten, you are on the right article. Indeed, going back to kindergarten is a mishmash of emotions, between stress and excitement, we don't know where to start. And this for parents and children. But you parents are big and strong, so today we are going to focus on the preparation of the children. That's why Kidlee has put together a list of tips to help you prepare for the start of the new school year in preschool.

Back to school: the commandments of a future schoolboy entering kindergarten

Autonomy, the basis for a successful return to school

The more you can teach your child to be independent before school starts, the better for them and their teachers. Start with the simplest things, like putting on their shoes and taking off their coat. Afterwards, the child can also zipper up his coat (yes, that's why the busyboard was zipped up!). It is also important to think about potty training, even if it is not mandatory. This includes going to the bathroom by himself, cleaning his private parts and washing his hands.

Let your child learn to eat by himself and to handle his food. You can even offer to organize his lunch box.

Learning to live with others

Kindergarten is about living in a community. Therefore, your child will have to find a place in this community of children and adults. With the children, he will have to learn to socialize with the children. And with his teachers, he will have to learn to respect the rules.

First, talk to your child often to build his or her vocabulary and give each emotion a word. Also, encourage your child to reach out to others. Usually, a trip to the park or a family party is all it takes to learn how to break the ice for the first time.

Emotional development

On an emotional level, as we were saying earlier, the child will experience an emotional roller coaster on a daily basis. From joy, to disappointment and even moments of anger, a kindergarten child's day can be very busy! This is why it is necessary to have a certain emotional maturity to be able to channel emotions. You will say to us but how to do it? It's quite simple, first of all you have to open a dialogue with the child. Then, of course, you must not forget to set limits. Finally, when your child is in trouble, let him resolve the conflict without intervening.

Back to school is fun

A few months before school starts, don't hesitate to talk to your child about the school. You may even be able to go on a tour of the school. Tell him how much fun it will be because he will meet other children and learn a lot of new things. So, as you can see, there's no shortage of enthusiasm when it comes to school, and don't hesitate to involve your child in choosing school supplies.

The importance of language

Indeed, as you will have understood, in this chapter, the child's language is very important because he needs it to be understood by others. Especially by his teachers, if he needs help, he will have to formulate an understandable sentence.

Motor skills

Once at school, the child will write, run, glue, gum and do many other movements. So, it's best to leave a variety of accessories for your child to handle, so that they can develop their motor skills.

Alternatively, you can also choose a great babysitter to help your child progress!

At Kidlee, we believe that it is important for children to be happy during their daycare hours. That's why we support our super babysitters through various workshops, trainings and fun content. So that they can offer the best support to their turn during their smart-sitting.
